UNGA 79: ‘Political leaders must bring solutions to escalating crisis in Lebanon’ – Grandi

High Commissioner for United Nations High Commision for Refugees (UNHCR), Filippo Grandi, said, “the escalating crisis in Lebanon is frightening”, adding, “Political leaders must bring solutions”.

He made the statement as the 79th Edition of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) kicked off on Monday.

Grandi said, “Thousands of people were forced from their homes today” and that, “the toll on civilians is unacceptable”.

The “escalating crisis in Lebanon” is between Israel and Hezbollah, with recent Israeli strikes killing at least 50 people and more than 300 injured, as revealed by the Ministry of Health in Lebanon on Monday.

Grandi said: “The escalating crisis in Lebanon is frightening. Thousands of people were forced from their homes today, in a region already devastated by war.


The toll on civilians is unacceptable.


Political leaders must bring solutions. An end to the hostilities is urgently needed.
