Bashir Ahmad, former Media Adviser to Late President, Muhammadu Buhari, has described, the decision by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to take the position of deputy under Peter Obi as an “expression of political humility”.
Ahmad’s statement is coming as a reaction to a post by an X user (@MyksonDosSantos) that, the former Governor of Kano State “finds it difficult” to call Obi his principal.
The X user vowed, he will exit the African Democratic Congress (ADC) the day Kwankwaso calls Obi his principal.
However, Ahmad reacted and said, the “political relationship” that exists between Kwankwaso and Obi should be seen as “that of political colleagues”.
The X user said, Vice President, Kashim Shettima, calls President Bola Ahmed Tinubu his principal; and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, calls former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, his principal; but, Kwankwaso calls Obi “our candidate”.
Kwankwaso is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to Presidential candidate, Obi, for the 2027 General Elections.
The X user posted: “Shettima calls Tinubu, my principalAmaechi calls Atiku, my principal
“Kwankwaso finds it difficult to call Peter Obi his principal. In fact, he calls him our candidate or my colleague.
“The day Kwankwaso calls Peter Obi his principal or his boss, I will leave ADC and support them. Vote wisely.”
Ahmad quoted the X user’s post and commented: “In all honesty, the political relationship between Rabiu Kwankwaso and Peter Obi should be viewed as that of political colleagues, not a principal and a subordinate.
“If we are assessing political experience, Sen. Kwankwaso arguably has a much longer and more distinguished political résumé than Peter Obi. His decision to accept a deputy position under Obi should be seen as an expression of political humility.
“Long before Peter Obi became a figure in national politics, Kwankwaso had already served as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“He went on to serve two terms as Governor of Kano State, Nigeria’s most populous and politically influential state, and as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“Peter Obi, by contrast, is only a former Governor of Anambra State.”
