Colombia have progressed to the Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026 following a lone goal triumph over Ghana in the Round of 32 match on Saturday 4 July, 2026 at Kansas City Stadium, Kansas City, United States (US).
The Tricolor netted the only goal of the game in the 14th minute through Palmeiras attacking midfielder, Jhon Arias, with Luis Suarez’ assist; Suarez launched in a cross from the right and Arias guided the ball home.
Nestor Lorenzo’s side will now lock horns with Switzerland in the Round of 16 on Tuesday 7 July, 2026 at 21:00 (WAT) at BC Place Vancouver, in Vancouver, Canada.
After Colombia’s Jhon Cordoba and Ghana’s Marvin Senaya suffered injuries early, both sides were forced to make changes before the 15th minute.
And it was Cordoba’s replacement, Suarez’ touch that made the goal happen for the South Americans.
Colombia almost made it two (2) before the end of the first half, but, Bayern Munich winger, Luis Diaz, fired just wide following a fast counter.
The Tricolor did net the second, but, it was chalked off by the assistant referee for offside.
The Black Stars were dull all through the showdown and lacked creativity, the same way they kicked off the tournament, in their first Group game against Panama, the West African side managed to squeeze out a lone goal win deep in additional time, in the 5th minute, in Toronto, Canada.
Colombia recorded more chances to extend their lead, but, all their effort yielded nothing as Arias’ goal proved to be enough.
