Obi ‘sad and heartbroken’ on passing of actor Alexx Ekubo

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has expressed “sadness” after receiving the “heartbreaking” story of the passing of Nollywood actor, Alexx Ekubo.

Ekubo passed recently following “battle with cancer”.

The former member of African Democratic Congress (ADC) said, the passing of the entertainer plunged the Entertainment Industry of Nigeria, as well as, admirers in their millions into mourning.

In his tribute to Alexx Ekubo via X, Obi wrote: “I received with sadness the heartbreaking news of the passing of young and talented Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, whose death has left the Nigerian entertainment industry and millions of admirers across the country mourning.”

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) member extended his “heartfelt” condolences to the Ekubos, friends, Nollywood colleagues and fans, who enjoyed his craft.

Obi further wrote: “On behalf of myself and everyone who values the immense contributions of our young creatives to nation-building, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues in Nollywood, and the countless fans whose lives he touched through his craft.

“At moments like this, we are reminded once again of the fragility of life and the importance of living with kindness, compassion, and a sense of purpose. Though his journey was cut short, the memories he created and the joy he brought to many through his performances will continue to live on.”

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party prayed divine “strength and comfort” for the family to bear the loss he described as “painful”, and, “may his gentle soul rest in perfect peace”.

Actor Alexx Ekubo passed at the age of forty (40) on Tuesday 12 May, 2026.
