‘I’ll observe my birthday low key’ – President Tinubu

Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has turned seventy-four (74) today, Sunday 29 March, 2026.

On the occasion of his birthday, the President expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Leader of Nigeria, saying, it is a thing that gives him “joy”.

He went ahead to seize the “moment” to thank Nigerians for their “love and prayers” on his 74th birthday, also, for their support for his government.

Some Nigerians went on radio and television to wish the President “well”, he made known on X.

In his message to Nigerian, President Tinubu wrote: “My dear fellow Nigerians,

“Today, as I clock another year in the journey of life, I’m filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity given me to serve this great nation. I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday. I thank all our citizens for their patriotism, solidarity and support for our administration.

“To those who have taken space in newspapers or paid for air time on radio and television to wish me well, I thank you immensely.”

The President thanked his wife and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, for her words of “kindness and love”, as well as, his Vice, Kashim Shettima, for his statements about him.

Tinubu said, it has become traditional to him to mark his birthday in parallel with the “mood” of Nigeria every year, adding, he has made a resolution to celebrate his birthday this year “low key”.

President Tinubu wrote: “I must thank my wife, First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, for her kind and loving words. I also thank Vice President Kashim Shettima for all he said about me.

“Consistent with my tradition over the years to mark my birthday in line with the mood of the nation each year, I resolved to also observe this year’s birthday low key.”

I have not forgotten the “challenges” Nigerians are battling with “since we initiated our reforms, the President said; he added, “I’m glad that our sacrifices have not been in vain as we can see some glittering light at the end of the tunnel, despite the temporary setback caused by ongoing Middle East crisis”.

He assured, his administration will “confront” these challenges facing Nigerians as the country moves towards the third anniversary of his administration.

The President further wrote: “it is my deepest conviction that we shall succeed in building a brighter future for our citizens and future generations.

“Let us continue to work together to build a stronger, prosperous and more resilient nation that will make Nigeria the pride of Africa.”
