Member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has maintained that Nigeria must migrate from “mere consumption to production” and start to harness its resources to “generate wealth and prosperity” for all citizens.
The former Governor of Anambra State made the statement on Saturday 14 February, 2026 when he attended the meeting of ADC and Obidient Movement in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State Capital.
In his emphasis focused on ‘Building a new Nigeria’, Obi called on all Nigerians to harmonize as “one family” for the prosperity of the country.
Obi posted: “Yesterday, Saturday, 14th February, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, I attended the meeting of the ADC and the Obidient Movement. In my address at the gathering, I emphasised the importance of unity, calling on all of us to work together as one family toward the common goal of building a new Nigeria.”
The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) said, Nigeria is in need of “competent” leaders who put first “poverty reduction”, as well as, create opportunities for the young Nigerians.
Obi said: “Nigeria must be led by leaders who are competent, compassionate, and committed — leaders who prioritise development, security, education, healthcare, poverty reduction, and creating opportunities for our youth.
“Our politics must shift from mere consumption to production, harnessing our nation’s resources to generate wealth and prosperity for all.”
He opined, for Nigeria to attain this level, there is the need for “renewal of character and accountability”; he said, if one wants to called “”honourable””, then one must behave “honourably”.
He said, leaders “must live distinguished lives” to prove they are committed to the progress of the country.
Addressing attendees at the event, Obi said: “But achieving this requires a renewal of character and accountability. Those who aspire to be called “honourable” must truly act honourably; those who seek to be addressed as “His Excellency” must embody excellence; and those who aim to be “distinguished” must live distinguished lives.
“Let this be the standard for our leaders and a guiding principle for all citizens committed to the nation’s progress.”
