Manchester United English interim head coach, Michael Carrick, has expressed his delight following his side’s comfortable 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds defeated the Spurs at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 February, 2026 after the visitors had gone down to ten (10) men; Captain Christian Romero was shown a straight red card after his studs landed on Casemiro’s ankle.
In his post-victory comments, Carrick, who played for Manchester United as a midfielder, said, the Reds were “largely in control” at the Theatre of Dreams.
The Englishman said, the win has now positioned Manchester United in a “good spot” as the 20-time Premier League winners are now sitting on the fourth spot of the table comfortably.
Carrick described Bryan Mbeumo’s opener for United as a “big one” as it plunged the hosts ahead of Spurs; he hailed Bruno Fernandes, who sealed the win for the home side, saying, the Portugal International has “offered the club so much in the time he’s been here”.
Also, Carrick handed Tyler Fletcher, son of former Manchester United midfielder, Darren Fletcher, his Reds debut in the match against Tottenham.
The interim boss explained, he handed Tyler his first United debut “to get him out on the pitch today, just to sample it and feel it.”
On his future at Old Trafford, Carrick, said, he is not thinking about that, and, he prefers “to get excited and carried away, as a supporter”.
According to Manchester United official website, at his post-victory press conference, Carrick said:
On the Reds performance against Spurs…
“When it goes to 10 men, it’s always a tricky kind of situation really. I thought it was quite an open game in the first half, at times. We looked dangerous, right from the start of the game, which was really pleasing again.
“We were largely in control, always wanting a second goal to come along and, when it did, it put us in a really good position. It was nice to get players on the pitch, Tyler [Fletcher] coming on for his first game.”
On how he feels after the win at home…
“I feel good. I feel pretty calm in some ways as well. I think we’re in a good spot. It’s nice to see, coming into the stadium and feeling the atmosphere from the supporters and the excitement, sending a lot of people home happy.
“Not taking things for granted is something we speak about a lot and the boys have been really good for that, so far.”
On Bryan Mbeumo’s opener…
“It was a big goal, against 10 men it can work in so many different ways. It’s more mind games than anything, you’ve almost got to think about we’re playing with 10 men as anything. Subconsciously, it’s a bit of a deep breath so the goal was a big one, to get in front.”
On Bruno Fernandes’ performance…
“Listen, it’d take a long time to sum it up [his contribution here]. I think he’s offered the club so much in the time he’s been here, since he walked in the door.
“He’s a team player, he gives so much to the group. He cares a lot for this football club and the team and that is clear to see.”
On Tyler Fletcher’s Reds debut…
“It was a proud moment for me, to be able to give Tyler his next step really in his career. I never take that for granted, never before, when I was at Middlesbrough, and giving young players an opportunity.

“I wanted to get him out on the pitch today, just to sample it and feel it.”
On his future at Old Trafford…
“Nah, it’s not for now. I think to get excited and carried away, as a supporter, is where you should be. It’s why you come to support us, to dream and get carried away.”
On Tyler Fletcher fielding for the first time for Manchester United, the Club posted on X: “Congratulations on making your Reds’ debut, Tyler”.
