Arsenal move nine points clear atop with 3-0 win over Sunderland

Arsenal easily scaled through Sunderland 3-0 in the Premier League match on Saturday 7 February, 2026 at Emirates Stadium.

The outcome means Arsenal are currently nine (9) points clear at the top of the League table, mounting pressure on title rivals, Manchester City, who face Liverpool on Sunday.

It was a comfortable scoreline for Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, however, Sunderland’s amazing display made the hosts work really hard for the win.

Arsenal’s bid for their first title in twenty-two (22) years received a huge boost after the triumph over the Black Cats on home turf.

In the 42ns minute, with Leandro Trossard’s assist, Martin Zubimendi’s beautiful low strike placed Arsenal in front; and Swedish striker Viktor Gyökeres, netted the other two (2) in the 66th minute and 3rd minute of additional time.

This is the first time Arsenal is clinching a nine-point lead at the top of the Premier League after more than twenty (20) years.

Gyökeres’ brace came from Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli respectively.

Havertz, Germany international, was the one who netted Arsenal’s winner in the EFL Cup 2025/26 semi final second leg showdown earlier this week, on Tuesday 3 February, 2026 at Emirates Stadium, with his goal in the 7th minute of additional time.

Despite falling behind after the break, Sunderland continued to play with confidence, and the visitors forced Gunners goalkeeper, David Raya, to make a fine save following an effort from Chemsdine Talbi.

Gyökeres’ performance from the bench

Once again, the Gunners displayed their power as Viktor Gyökeres came on as substitute to net a brace and hand his side maximum points at home. The Sweden International has now recorded eight (8) goal involvements in eight (8) games.

Sunderland have shocked the top flight with their performance this campaign, however, they just suffered their third defeat in four (4) games on Saturday evening in North London.

Gyökeres had only been in action for Arsenal for just few minutes before holding off his man and shooting low inside the near post. And Belgian forward, Trossard, deserves great credit for his role in the goal, manoeuvring his way through and supplying Havertz, who then released for Gyökeres, to extend the home side’s lead.
