Manchester United 2-0 Tottenham Hotspur: Carrick extends winning run as Reds cruise at home

While Tottenham Hotspur skipper, Christian Romero, saw a straight red, Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes netted for Manchester United.

Manchester United made good use of Tottenham Hotspur captain, Christian Romero’s red card to bag all three (3) points in the top flight game on Saturday afternoon.

It was Michael Carrick’s fourth Premier League 2025/26 consecutive victory since taking over as Interim manager of Manchester United as he led the Reds to a 2-0 win over Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday 7 February, 2026.

United ended its eight-match run without a win against the Spurs’ with goals from Cameroonian forward, Mbeumo, and Portuguese midfield maestro, Fernandes.

The victory means Manchester United have successfully sealed their position in the top four (4) of the League; a feat sacked manager, Ruben Amorim, found very difficult to achieve.

Tottenham’s hopes of clinching a ticket in next season’s Uefa Champions League have long suffered a dip as they have now lowered to below top 10 in the standings.

Argentine defender, Romero’s position as Tottenham captain had already been slammed with a question mark; and the center-back, 27 years of age, will now suffer a four-game suspension following his second red card of the seaon, and sixth of his career at Spurs.

Twenty-nine (29) minutes into the clash, Romero fouled on Reds midfielder, Casemiro, on the Brazilian’s ankle and was sent off by referee Michael Oliver.

Mbeumo converted Kobbie Mainoo’s assist to open the scoring for Manchester United in the 38th minute after a fine corner involving Fernandes.

Ivorian winger, Amad Diallo, and Brazilian attacking midfielder, Matheus Cunha, had their goals struck out by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for offside, but, the hosts eventually doubled their lead in the 81st minute after defender, Diogo Dalpt, provided for Fernandes.

It was the Portugal International’s 200th goal or assist for Manchester United in 314 games.

Prior to the game, Carrick said, United need not rush to make a choice of a new permanent head coach.
