Manchester City will now head into the EFL Cup 2025/26 final to slug it out with Arsenal for the title after a mouth-watering victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday night.
Right inside the Etihad Stadium, Manchester City breezed through Newcastle United 3-1 in the EFL Cup semi final second leg clash on Wednesday 4 February, 2026, and will face an in-form Arsenal in the final.
The outcome means Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens reached the final of the tournament with an appealing 5-1 aggregate triumph over the Magpies.
Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United, heading into the showdown with a two-goal deficit from the first leg, were in need of something enormously different in Wednesday’s match, but, had to take in the worst possible kick off as Egypt international, Omar Marmoush’s early opener set the path for the home side’s 10th final in the tournament.
Starting in Erling Haaland’s place, Marmoush netted the first for Manchester United very early, in the 6th minute, putting the ball past goalkeeper, Aaron Ramsdale; and shortly after, the English goalie stopped an effort from Tijjani Rejinders.
The Magpies had chances to level, but, the hosts made sure to defend solidly as they looked determined to scale through.
In the 29th minute, Marmoush, who recently returned to action for City after representing Egypt in the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2025, netted the second for the Blues in the 29th minute, and Rejinders added the third for Manchester City just three minutes later to seal qualification to the EFL Cup final for the Cityzens.
The visitors managed to net a consolation in the 62nd minute through Anthony Elanga with a beautiful curling effort, and English winger, Harvey Barnes, had another disallowed.
Manchester City and Arsenal will now fight for the EFL Cup 2025/26 title when they clash in the final on Sunday 22 March, 2026 at Wembley Stadium, an iconic 90,000-seat national stadium of England and home to England Senior National Football Team, in London.
