Head Coach, Mikel Arteta, made seven (7) changes for Arsenal as the English Premier League side made light work of Italian Serie A side, Inter, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase match 3-1 at San Siro on Tuesday 20 January, 2026
Former Manchester city forward, Gabriel Jesus, netted twice to help the Gunners to a fine away win and maintain Arsenal’s 100% kick off in the tournament, as well as, guarantee a top-two finish in the preliminaries.
Heading into the showdown, Arsenal were very confident of finishing the League Phase in the top eight (8), and recorded their longest winning run in the Uefa Champions League with a jaw-dropping victory in Italy on Tuesday night
Defender, Jurrien Timber, provided for Brazilian forward, Jesus, who opened the scoring for the visitors in the 10th minute, but, the Nerazzurri fought back and mounted some pressure on Arsenal, which resulted in their leveller in the 18th minute through Petar Sucic.
Sucic’s well bent potent strike beat goalkeeper, David Raya, from the edge of the area after Nicolo Barella’s initial effort was stopped.
But, the Gunners reclaimed the lead in the 31st minute after Leandro Trossard provided for the Brazil international; Trossard headed back into the area a deep corner from Bukayo Saka and an unmarked Jesus nodded in to make it 2-1 for Arsenal.
In the 84th minute, Swedish striker, Viktor Gyökeres, sealed the win with a finely curled strike for Arteta’s side with Saka’s assist; the goal ensured a comfortable end to the clash.
Gabriel Jesus recorded his third match of the 2025/26 season:
The Brazilian forward started his third game this campaign after coming back from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which has prevented his from action for the past eleven (11) months.
His two (2) goals put to an end a run of ten (10) Uefa Champions League matches without a goal; Viktor Gyökeres elevated his confidence with the third goal against Inter.
Arsenal’s stunning away form:
This game in the city of Milan, Italy, was the fourth for Arsenal away in all competitions and once again, the English side have showed they are a hard nut to crack – winning easily against the Nerazzurri, who are Serie A toppers.
The Gunners have remained undefeated in all the matches against Chelsea, Portsmouth and Inter. A disappointing goalless draw against Nottingham Forest at City Ground still had the North London club extend their lead at the top of the Premier League 2025/26 table.
