The Nobel Prize has released its statement after Venezuela’s Opposition Leader, Maria Corina Machado, transferred her Nobel Peace Prize to Donald Trump, President of the United States (US).
Machado presented the US Leader her award during he meeting at the White House in Washington DC with Trump.
She said, Trump deserves to have her Nobel Peace Prize for “work done” in her country, Venezuela; she explained, the gesture was to recognize Trump for his dedication to the freedom of Venezuela.
The Nobel Prize said in a statement on X, one of the “core missions” of the Nobel Foundation is “to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration”.
It further said, the prizes are awarded to those who “”have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind,””.
“A prize can not be passed on or further distributed”, the Nobel Prize said.
The Statement reads: “One of the core missions of the Nobel Foundation is to safeguard the dignity of the Nobel Prizes and their administration. The Foundation upholds Alfred Nobel’s will and its stipulations.
“It states that the prizes shall be awarded to those who “have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind,” and it specifies who has the right to award each respective prize.
“A prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed.”
A Press Release on the Nobel Peace Prize official website says: “A laureate cannot share the prize with others, nor transfer it once it has been announced. A Nobel Peace Prize can also never be revoked. The decision is final and applies for all time.
“The medal is cast in 18-carat gold, weighs 196 grams, and measures 6.6 centimetres in diameter. It was designed by the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland in 1901.
“The obverse features a portrait of Alfred Nobel, while the reverse depicts three naked men with their arms around one another’s shoulders, symbolising fraternity.
“The Latin inscription pro pace et fraternitate gentium means “for peace and the fraternity of nations.””
President Trump described, Machado’s gesture of presenting her award to him as a “wonderful gesture of mutual respect”.
