President Mohamud undeterred by Netanyahu, says Somaliland ‘inseparable part’ of Somalia

President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has come out to condemn Israel’s recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign State from Somalia.

Addressing a special Joint Session of the Federal Parliament at Villa Hargeisa on Sunday, Mohamud described Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu’s official recognition of Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign” State as a “blatant attack on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

The Somalian Leader added, Netanyahu expressed disregard for interntional law and established norms by recognizing Somaliland as a State on its own.

Netanyahu announced via a statement that, Israel will expand its relations with Somaliland.

Mohamud stressed that, Somaliland “remains an inseparable part” of Somalia, and warned, the Israeli PM’s action “revive extremist elements”.

A Statement by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s Office on X reads: “The President strongly condemned Prime Minister Netanyahu’s blatant attack on Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and his disregard for international law and established norms.

“The President further warned that “such null and void actions risk further destabilizing the Horn of Africa region and reviving extremist elements, undermining the significant gains made in the fight against international terrorism.”

“The President also reaffirmed Somalia’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that the Northern Regions remain an inseparable part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.”
