The Federal Government has approved the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom State for full international flight operations.
This was made known by the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, describing the development as a “major milestone”.
Eno said, he secured the approval during his meeting with Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Governor Eno said: “Akwa Ibom has achieved a major milestone as the Federal Government has approved Victor Attah International Airport for full international flight operations. I secured this approval today during my meeting with the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo @fkeyamo “
The “upgrade” has now placed the Airport among Nigeria’s choice facilities certified for international traffic, “opening new opportunities for tourism and business growth”.
The Governor assured his adminisration will not cease to develop “pathways” to bolster opportunities and “strengthen” the South-South State’s position as an “emerging aviation hub”.
Governor Eno further said: “This upgrade places our airport among the select facilities in Nigeria authorised for international traffic, opening new opportunities for tourism, global connectivity, business growth, and foreign investment. Full international operations are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
“This is a significant step forward for our state, and my administration remains committed to creating pathways that expand opportunities and strengthen Akwa Ibom’s position as an emerging aviation hub. God bless Akwa Ibom State.”
