Real Madrid defender Alexander-Arnold diagnosed with muscle injury, Mbappe wins MVP

Real Madrid English defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold, has been diagnosed with a “muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg”, the Club announced on Wednesday.

The former Liverpool defender was replaced very early during the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase encounter between his side, Real Madrid, and French Ligue 1 side, Olympique Marseille, on Tuesday night.

In the 3rd minute, Alexander-Arnold was removed from action as Xabi Alonso’s Los Blancos came from the back to beat Marseille 2-1 at Santiago Bernabeu, thanks to two penalties from Kylian Mbappe.

Timothy Weah scored for Marseille in the 22nd minute before Mbappe levelled in the 29th minute and handed the hosts all three (3) points with the seond in the 81st minute.

On Alexander-Arnold’s injury update, Real Madrid made known via its official website: “Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player, Trent Alexander-Arnold, he has been diagnosed with a muscle injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”

Real Madrid French forward, Kylian Mbappe, emerged the Most Valuable Player (MVP) following his beautiful contribution to the Club’s home victory on Tuesday.

The former Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) star stepped up ans scored twice from the spot past Rulli. He came close to scoring in the early stages with an acrobatic bicycle kick.

Real Madrid’s next opponent

The La Liga toppers will take a trip to Kazakhstan to slug it out with Kairat on 30 September in their next Champions League showdown, while Marseille will welcome Ajax on the same night.
