Akwa Ibom State Executive Council approves ₦695bn supplementary budget

At the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting, presided over by Governor Umo Eno, a ₦695 billion supplementary budget was approved and will be presented to the House of Assembly.

This brings the size of the State’s 2025 budget to ₦1.65 trillion.

Governor Eno posted on X: “I presided over the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council meeting, where EXCO approved a ₦695 billion Supplementary Budget to be presented to the House of Assembly. This brings the total 2025 budget size to ₦1.65 trillion.”

Eno expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his “continuous support” which has made available to the South-South State “the resources to implement life-touching projects” for Akwa Ibomites, as well as, “deliver on the ARISE Agenda”

Governor Eno said: “We deeply appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continuous support to states, which has provided us with the resources to implement life-touching projects for our citizens and deliver on the ARISE Agenda.

“This supplementary budget realigns our priorities and addresses emerging needs to keep our state on the path of growth.”

Eno listed “Emergency flood and erosion control, Construction of new roads, Purchase of Ibom CNG Mass Transit buses” alongside others as projects that will be funded by the supplementary budget.

The Governor listed: “Projects Covered by the Supplementary Budget

“The supplementary budget will fund:

• Implementation of the new minimum wage and personnel emoluments.

• NYSC allowances for corps members serving in Akwa Ibom and Akwa Ibom indigenes serving outside the state.

• Emergency flood and erosion control projects to protect vulnerable communities.

• Completion of ongoing projects affected by inflation.

• Construction of new roads, with awards prioritised to take advantage of the dry season.

• Purchase of Ibom CNG Mass Transit buses to expand safe and affordable transport.

• Funding for newly created ministries, including Sports, Digital Economy, Humanitarian Services, and the Bureau of Rural Development and Cooperatives.

• Tree Crop Revolution Programme to boost agriculture and job creation.

• Construction of new housing estates across the state to tackle housing needs.

• Renovation of the House of Assembly Complex to support legislative efficiency.

• Capital provisions for acquiring new aircraft to strengthen Ibom Air’s operations.

• Development of the ARISE Shopping City, boosting tourism and commerce.”

The Governor expressed optimism that, the “strategic” injection of the supplementary budget “will stimulate our local economy”, as well as, “create jobs”.

Eno said: “This strategic budget injection will stimulate our local economy, improve infrastructure, create jobs, and enhance the quality of life across all 31 LGAs of Akwa Ibom State. It represents our firm commitment to a people-first governance, ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every community.”
