‘Show of shame’ – Atiku says as Nigerian booth in Japan is seen empty

Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has described Nigeria’s participation at the ongoing Ninth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD 9) in Japan as a “show of shame”.

This is coming from the 2023 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Coalition as the Nigerian booth in faraway Yokohama, Japan is seen “empty”.

At TICAD 9, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu made Nigeria’s position clear that, the country will always honour the service of soldiers in “fighting battles and building peace”.

The Nigerian President also welcomed Japan’s $5.5 billion commitment to Africa; he said, Nigeria is at the TICAD 9 table “as a leader shaping solutions for Africa’s future” and not as a “bystander”.

In his reaction on X, Atiku said: “Just like ongoing show of shame at the empty Nigerian booth in far away Japan, two years into this administration, we are probably waiting for an official inauguration or preferably an “unveiling” of Renewed Hope before Nigerians can experience good governance.”
