Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State, via X: “We heartily congratulate our indomitable Super Falcons on their remarkable triumph at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), where they once again proved that Nigeria is the undisputed queen of African football.
“Coming from two goals down to defeat the host nation, Morocco, in front of a spirited home crowd is a feat that speaks volumes of our team’s resilience, grit, and unyielding spirit. With goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and a dramatic winner by Joe Echegini, our Falcons showed true Nigerian character — never giving up, never backing down.
“We are proud of what this team has accomplished. Lifting the trophy for a record 10th time — Mission X as they rightly called it — is not just a win on the pitch, but a powerful message to every young girl across our nation: that with focus, courage, and hard work, no dream is beyond reach.
“As a government and as a people, we celebrate this victory with joy and national pride. Ogun State stands tall with the rest of Nigeria in saluting our champions. We thank the players, coaches, and everyone behind this historic success. You have made us proud, once again.”
Prof. Yemi Osinbajo via X: “Well… I trust someone gently warned Morocco. When Nigeria arrives quietly, it is often because we intend to leave with all the noise.
“What happened tonight in Rabat was vintage Naija. Two goals down. A stadium roaring. But our @nigeriasuperfalcons ? They did not panic. They adjusted their wings.
“Okoronkwo stepped up and converted the penalty with the composure of someone solving a constitutional crisis. Ijamilusi brought us level. Calm. Clinical. Confident. And just when Morocco thought the drama had peaked, Echegini delivered a set piece that felt like it was signed, sealed, and sent from Abuja.
“Three goals. One comeback written with resolve. And a trophy that now tells its own story in green white green.
“We play with fire in our feet and faith in our future. Because we may bend, but we never break. And in case the world needs a reminder… Naija no dey carry last.
“Congratulations @nigeriasuperfalcons “
