Erik Ten Hag’s Bayer Leverkusen crushed 5-1 by Flamengo U20 in first game in charge

Dutchman, Erik ten Hag, suffered an ugly start to life as Bayer Leverkusen manager as the German side were walloped 5-1 by Flamengo U20s.

The Black and Reds became the first Bundesliga club to stage a pre-season tour in South America this summer and the former Manchester United head coach named a strong starting lineup in his first showdown since taking over from Xabi Alonso.

Super Eagles of Nigeria forward, Victor Boniface, led the line, while Mark Flekken – a summer signing from Brentford – and 17-year-old Axel Tape – who joined on a free from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) – all started in Rio de Janeiro.

Lorran placed the Brazilian side in front after a quick counter-attack within two minutes, and it was 2-0 inside 10 when Arthur miscued a clearance, with the ball trickling into the back of his own net.

Flekken and Boniface were replaced with just 36 minutes intl action, with Niklas Lomb and Alejo Sarco their replacements.

It got more annoying before the end of the first half, as Matheus Goncalves headed in a cross from the left, before Pedro Leao struck after shot from distance had ricocheted back off the left-hand post.

The Dutch boss made 10 changes not long after Gusttavo made it five (5) goals to zero (0) following a run in from the flank.

Montrell Culbreath netted a consolation for Bayer Leverkusen in the 70th minute.
