Official: Sean Longstaff departs Newcastle United, joins Leeds

Newcastle United has announced, English midfielder, Sean Longstaff, has left St. James’ Park and completed a move to newly promoted, Leeds United.

Longstaff joined the Academy at the age of nine, recorded 214 senior appearances and sealed his spot in club history as part of the Magpies Carabao Cup winning squad.

The midfielder has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Elland Road which will make him stay in West Yorkshire until the summer of 2029.

The fifth signing of the window joins The Peacocks having recorded 25 appearances in the Premier League last season for Eddie Howe’s Magpies, helping them to qualify for the Uefa Champions League 2025/26.

Longstaff was also an important figure in putting to an end a 70-year trophy drought at St. James’ Park by lifting the League Cup.

After enjoying critical loan periods early in his career, Longstaff recorded his debut for Newcastle United in a 2018 cup tie with Nottingham Forest and has since gone on to represent his the Magpies over 200 times in all competitions.

His first goal for Newcastle came in a 2019 victory over Burnley. Longstaff continued to offer a goal-threat from then on and has netted 16 times in the top-flight.
