Governor Eno encourages youth to develop skills in climate change, blue economy, carbon credit

Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has encouraged young Akwa Ibomites to develop skills in climate change, blue economy and carbon credit.

Eno said, the South-South State is in “serious need” of talents in these areas, adding, “capacity must come before opportunity”.

The Governor made the statement while speaking at the opening of the 2025 International Pastors’ Conference at Insight Bible Church, Uyo on Wednesday.

Governor Eno posted on X: “I spoke at the opening of the 2025 International Pastors’ Conference at Insight Bible Church, Uyo. I encouraged our young people to rise to the challenges of this generation by developing critical skills in areas like climate change, the blue economy, and carbon credit.

“We’re in serious need of specialized talent in these fields. Capacity must come before opportunity. I also celebrated Pastor Sylvanus Ukafia and the Insight Bible Church team for their consistency in building leaders since 1999. Their impact on church leadership and society at large is truly inspiring.”

Blue Economy

According to lse.ac.uk:

The term ‘blue economy’ broadly relates to a sustainable ocean economy – the economic activities associated with the ocean, seas and coastal regions – that allows resource use while preserving the health of the ocean ecosystem.

Climate Change

According to un.org:

Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
