‘Nigeria growing in influence’ – Governor Abiodun at BRICS Summit

Dapo Abiodun, Executive Governor of Ogun State, who travelled with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Brazil for the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio De Janeiro, said, Nigeria is invited to the event due to its “growing influence”.

President Tinubu is attending the BRICS Summit at the invitation of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva “in recognition of our new designation as a partner country within the BRICS framework”.

Governor Abiodun said on X: “Honoured to be part of the delegation that received our dear President, His Excellency, @officialABAT, GCFR, upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, ahead of the 17th BRICS Summit.

“Mr. President is attending the summit at the invitation of the President of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in recognition of Nigeria’s growing influence and our new designation as a partner country within the BRICS framework.

“This elevated status goes beyond our previous classification as a guest country and affirms Nigeria’s strategic relevance on the global stage.

“As we join hands with other nations in discussions that shape global economic policy and development, we are proud that Nigeria continues to be recognised for its leadership in Africa and beyond.

“We are confident that Mr. President’s participation will open new frontiers for economic cooperation, foreign investment, and strategic partnerships that will ultimately benefit our people.”
