PSG through to FIFA Club World Cup round of 16 after 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders

Treble Winners, Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG), have progressed into the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 after a comfortable 2-0 victory over Major League Soccer (MLS) Club, Seattle Sounders, on Monday 23 June, 2025 at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington DC.

Georgian winger, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Moroccan defender, Achraf Hakimi, netted in either half, in the 35th and 67th minutes respectively, for the Uefa Champions League 2024/25 winners, who will now lock horns with the runners-up of Group A in the next round of the competition.

An uncommon failure in focus from Les Parisiens goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, virtually gifted an opportunity for the American side to take a stunning lead, however, Jesus Ferreira could only fire over.

Luis Enrique’s PSG almost scored a third late on, but Warren Zaire-Emery’s effort was amazingly cleared off the line by Nouhou Tolo, but it did not matter much as they held on for a routine win.

PSG, who clinched a treble in the 2024/25 season – Ligue 1, Coupe De France and Uefa Champions League – will be joined in the round of 16 by Brazilian side, Botafogo, despite losing in the final preliminary encounter against Atletico.

In their last preliminary game, Spanish La Liga side, Atletico Madrid, squeezed out a lone goal triumph over Botafogo, however, the Brazilian club still made it through while the Mattress Makers exit the tournament.

Diego Simeone’s Atletico needed three (3) goals to progress, but, were only able to find one scored by Frenchman, Antoine Griezmann late, in the 87th minute.
