Abdulsalami Abubakar At 83: ‘One of the few whose legacy speaks without embellishment’ – Saraki

Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, 13th President of the Nigerian Senate, has sent greetings to former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, on the occasion of the General’s 83rd birthday today, Friday 13 June, 2025.

Saraki said, Abdulsalami “remains one of the few whose legacy speaks without embellishment.”

Abdulsalami Abubakar was born on 13 June, 1942 in Minna, Niger State, Nigeria.

Saraki said, “In just 11 months, he made choices that reshaped our history”, adding, he “handing power back to the people and opening the door to civilian rule”.

Abdulsalami served as Nigeria’s 11th Head of State and Minister of Defence from June, 1998 to May, 1999.

In his birthday message to Abdulsalami, Saraki wrote on his official X account: “At 83, former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar remains one of the few whose legacy speaks without embellishment. In just 11 months, he made choices that reshaped our history — handing power back to the people and opening the door to civilian rule.

“But it is his humility after power, his constant presence in the background working for peace, that truly defines him. As we celebrate him today, I pray that Almighty Allah (SWT) continues to bless him with good health, strength, and many more years in service to our nation.

“Happy birthday, Sir!”
