The Spanish manager made the statement at his press conference ahead of the UCL 2024/25 match against Feyenoord.
Manchester City will welcome Feyenoord at Etihad Stadium for the Uefa Champions League 2024/25 League Phase match on Tuesday 26 November, 2024 at 21:00 (WAT).
Guardiola’s Cityzens will head into the European encounter with five defeats back-to-back – the most recent was a humiliating 0-4 loss to Tottenham Hotspur right inside the Etihad on Saturday 23 November, 2024 in the English top flight.
At his press conference, Guardiola said:
On Team’s form and injuries…
“We are big believers in the process and the fundamentals we have to do. All the players that have injuries come back in form. Get some rest, come back, get a result and change our belief… When we were winning I was thinking this too shall pass and now I am thinking this too shall pass. Nothing is eternal… In this situation, we have to go more direct to our principles and don’t change much, less than ever, give certainty to the players.”
On the team’s consistency…
“At the beginning of the season, it was really good. We are not consistent. [We’ve had] an incredible amount of absences, you can have one or two but we have a lot and important positions… Maybe I should expect it would happen that we would drop, it’s normal. Now we analyse in December and at the end of the season what we have to do to be more solid next season. I have the feeling that we will do very good things this season. I don’t give it up.”
On Kevin De Bruyne…
“(On Kevin De Bruyne) He is fighting and training more than ever. He is not 25/26/27 now, he is of a certain age. Last season he was five months out. Last game before Spurs he came to me and he said it’s the first day I didn’t feel anything for months… Only I ask for Kevin and what he is looking for is no pain… Kevin will give us something because he is unique… There would be no sense to say the opposite.”
On Feyenoord…
“Right now, every opponent is tough for us. They [Feyenoord] have a strength and we are going to have to play well to discover their weaknesses. They’re a traditional Champions League team. Alongside PSV and Ajax, the best three teams in the Netherlands.”
