Nigeria’s Economy: President Tinubu fully committed to reviving the cocoa industry and the entire agricultural value chain in Nigeria – Shettima

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is “fully committed to reviving the cocoa industry and the entire agricultural value chain in Nigeria”, Vice President, Kashim Shettima revealed.

The Vice President further revealed, the President’s “target” is to “transform the sector from being merely a producer to a global processor of cocoa”.

The Tinubu-led government is doing everything “to ensure that Nigeria transitions from a mere producer of cocoa to a major processor, by promoting sustainable cocoa farming and forest preservation.”

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, made these revelations during an audience on Monday 2 June, 2025 with a delegation from the World Cocoa Foundation, led by its President, Mr Chris Vincent, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Shettima described the recent establishment of a National Cocoa Management Board (NCMB) as approved by Federal Executive Council (FEC) as a “strategic step towards revamping the nation’s cocoa industry.”

According to Shettima: “The Vice President, Senator @KashimSM, has said that the administration of President @officialABAT is fully committed to reviving the cocoa industry and the entire agricultural value chain in Nigeria, with a target of transforming the sector from being merely a producer to a global processor of cocoa.

“According to him, the administration is putting everything in place to ensure that Nigeria transitions from a mere producer of cocoa to a major processor, by promoting sustainable cocoa farming and forest preservation.

“Senator @KashimSM, who stated this on Monday during an audience with a delegation from the World Cocoa Foundation (@WorldCocoaOrg), led by its President, Mr Chris Vincent, at the Presidential Villa, noted that the recent approval by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) for the establishment of a National Cocoa Management Board (NCMB) is a strategic step towards revamping the nation’s cocoa industry.”

The VP said, “We used to be one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, but, we can reclaim that lost glory”, adding, President Tinubu is “fully committed to revitalising not only the cocoa industry but all agricultural value chains”.

Shettima further said: ““Let’s walk the talk. We used to be one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, but because of the advent of oil, we have now been relegated to the background.

““But we can reclaim that lost glory, and the President is fully committed to revitalising not only the cocoa industry but all agricultural value chains.””
