International Workers’ Day 2025: Governor Adeleke announce ₦4b as another batch of bond payment for contributory pensioners

On International Workers’ Day 2025, today, Thursday 1 May, 2025, Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, announced, “the sum of 4 Billion Naira as another batch of bond payment for the contributory pensioners” as well as “the commencement of the promotion exercise for Year 2025 for eligible officers and staff across the entire public service, including the Local Governments”.

The Governor seized the opportunity to renew his “commitment to prioritize welfare of the workers and ensure steady improvement of their working condition.”

He said, “this year’s celebration afforded us the opportunity to review our administration’s efforts at improving the welfare of our workers by ensuring prompt payment of full salaries; free Health Insurance cover for all Osun State Pensioners; full implementation of National Minimum Wage of N75,554.28k for all workers.”

International Workers’ Day also known as Labour Day or May Day is a celebration of labourers and the working classes that is promoted by the international labour movement and holds every year on 1 May or the first Monday in May.

“Today, I joined the diligent and dedicated workers of Osun State, led by Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Arapasopo and Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrade Bimbo Fasasi, to celebrate the 2025 May Day rally, in Osogbo. This year’s celebration afforded us the opportunity to review our administration’s efforts at improving the welfare of our workers by ensuring prompt payment of full salaries; Prompt payment of gratuities and pension to retirees; Continuous payment of outstanding salary arrears owed by the past administration to workers and retirees; full payment of all outstanding cooperative deductions; workers promotion with pay rise; free Health Insurance cover for all Osun State Pensioners; full implementation of National Minimum Wage of N75,554.28k for all workers and N25,000.00 for all our pensioners among others.

“To mark this year’s celebration, I announced the sum of 4 Billion Naira as another batch of bond payment for the contributory pensioners and the commencement of the promotion exercise for Year 2025 for eligible officers and staff across the entire public service, including the Local Governments. The Labour leaders conveyed endorsement of the entire Osun workforce for our administration’s continuous tenure beyond 2026; a gesture that filled me with a great sense of pride and fulfillment of our electoral promises.
