Serhou Guirassy netted a hat-trick and still finished losers as Borussia Dortmund’s 3-1 triumph over Barcelona wasn’t enough to prevent a 5-3 aggregate loss in the Champions League quarter-finals second leg at Signal Iduna Park.
Whitewashed 4-0 in the first leg of the quarter-final, Dortmund had nothing to lose and attacked the Spanish giants, Barcelona, from the start.
Guirassy scored three times in the 11th, 49th, and 76th minutes, and Ramy Bensebaini hit the back of his own net in the 54th minute.
The outcome means Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have now suffered their first loss of the season, and will face either Bayern Munich or Inter.
Inter and Bayern Munich will fight for a semi final spot when they lock horns in the second leg of their quarter final tie on Wednesday 16 April, 2025 at 20:00 at San Siro, Milan.
Barcelona manager, Hansi Flick, in his post-Dortmund comments, said: “We are in the semifinal. I think for the Club, but also for the team, for the fans, it’s unbelievable…In the first year, in the semifinal, it means we are one of the best teams in Europe, and this is great.”
