BET Hip Hop Awards 2022: Tems wins Best Collaboration, Burna Boy nominated, Kendrick Lemar and Drake emerge big winners

The rapper beat the likes of Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat to win the Artist Of The Year.


He went ahead to win the Lyricist Of The Year | Album Of The Year | Best Live Performer | Best Video | Video Director categories.

Nigerian songwriter Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems won Best Collaboration award of the BET Hip Hop Awards 2022.

Tems’ contribution to American rapper, Future’s song ‘Wait For You’, featuring Drake, earned her the prize.

The Nigerian record producer was nominated in two other categories – Song Of The Year | Best Hip Hop Video, however, she won just one.

Another Nigerian is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, popularly called Burna Boy, earned a nomination in the Video Director Of The Year category for his music video ‘Last Last’, however, the award went to Kendrick Lemar and Dave Free.

Drake was also successful, won 14 nominations and bagged three awards.

The Hip Hop Awards are just a by-product of the main BET Awards. The focus of the BET Awards is to celebrate black entertainment.

Others who won awards on the night include; Latto, EarthGang, Curtis Jackson, popularly known as 50 Cent won the Hustler Of The Year Award. Big names nominated alongside 50 Cent on the category encompasses; Cardi B, DJ Khaled, Drake, Jay Z, Kanye West and Megan Thee Stallion.

Kanye West, despite being nominated 10 times, did not receive any award.
