Group E – Japan came from the back to shock Germany with a 2-1 victory in their first match of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Khalifa International Stadium, Qatar, on 23 Wednesday.

Photos π Germany, who are a four-time World Cup Champions, were in control for most of the play time, however, the DFB Team were unable to take advantage of their pressure – allowing the Samurai Blue to clinch all three points, causing the venue of the match to erupt in a combination of jubilation and shock.
Ilkay Gundogan put the Europeans ahead from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute, and Ritsu Doan levelled for Japan in the 75th minute.

Substitute Takuma Asano sealed the win for the Asians with an 83rd minute goal from a tight angle. Asano ran over to the photographers in one of the corners of the Stadium to celebrate his goal.
