After winning Ballon d’Or 2026 in London on Monday 26 October, 2026, English forward, Harry Kane, was rested as Bayern Munich went on to make light work of Magdeburg in the German Cup.
On Wednesday 28 October, 2026 at Allianz Arena in Munich, Bayern Munich breezed through Magdeburg 6-1 in the second round match of the DFB Cup 2026/27 with French winger, Michael Olise, netting twice.
Magdeburg, 2. Bundesliga side, the second tier of the German Football League system, quickly levelled just five minutes after the Bavarians had gone in front, but, that move only angered the hosts to turn the showdown to a goal spree.
The home side opened the scoring in the 10th minute through Olise, but, Magdeburg levelled in the 15th minute through Mateusz Żukowski’s effort.
And, after the visitors brought parity to the contest, it became a one-sided show that had Bayern Munich reign supreme until the end with five (5) goals to show.
Ismael Saibari, Olise, Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown and David Santos Daiber netted in the 21st, 51st (pen), 70th, 73rd and 90+3 minutes respectively for the Bavarians, to reach the third round of the tournament.
Kane was totally missing in action for Bayern as he warmed the bench all through the game; the reigning best footballer in the world was handed a well-deserved rest.
