Bayern Munich ran back home with a slim victory in the Bundesliga match against Wolfsburg on Saturday 9 May, 2026 at Volkswagen Arena in Wolfsburg, thanks to a stunning curling strike from Michael Olise after Harry Kane missed a penalty in the first half.
The outcome mounted more pressure on Wolfsburg, who are relegation-threatened.
The visitors were obviously not at their best in the match and appeared sluggish following their defeat in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 semi final to Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) on Wednesday.
The Bavarians were seen off by the French Ligue 1 side after suffering a 6-5 loss.
Wolfsburg, who are third bottom on the League table, in the relegation Play-off spot, are just in front of St. Pauli on goal difference and three (3) points clear of FC Heidenheim, who are placed bottom, on the 18th spot.
The Wolves were in control for a large part of the game against Vincent Kompany’s side, and recorded seventeen (17) goal attempts, while, English forward, Kane, was unable to convert for Bayern Munich from the penalty spot in the 35th minute; the visitors won the penalty after Olise was fouled in the box by Konstantinos Koulierakis.
Kane had netted all his penalty kicks in the top flight this season, but, fired this one wide.
Prior to the break, Wolfsburg came close through Christian Eriksen, Denis Vavro and Patrick Wimmer; their efforts forced Bayern goalkeeper, Jonas Urbig, to make beautiful saves, however, their push was dwarfed by the intensity launched by Bayern in the second half.
And, in the 56th minute, Olise found the winner with Konrad Laimer’s assist. The Frenchman’s goal was a fine finish after cutting in front an impervious angle and curling the ball past Kamil Grabara, the home side’s goalkeeper.
For his goal against Wolfsburg, Olise was voted Man Of The Match (MOTM)
The result means Wolfsburg’s quest to not be relegated will now come down to a last showdown of the season against St. Pauli at Millerntor-Stadion in Hamburg.
A win will earn Wolfsburg another chance at survival through the relegation-promotion play-off.
