WHO DG moves to DRC as Ebola ravages Ituri province

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), announced, he is heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as Ebola returns to the Central African country with Ituri province “bearing the brunt”.

The WHO DG said via X, he will work alongside teams of WHO, partners, as well as, the “extraordinary” health workers, who are battling with the disease.

He made known, Ebola has struck DR Congo “16” times and the country has defeated it; he said, the disease will be defeated again for the “17th” time, adding, action must be taken in “togetherness”.

Ghebreyesus said: “On my way to #DRC.

“Ebola is back. Ituri province is bearing the brunt. I will be on the ground with our @WHO teams, partners, and the extraordinary health workers who have never stopped fighting, all working under the leadership of the Government of DRC.

“16 times, this country has defeated Ebola. The 17th will be no different. But we must act now, together.”

Earlier, via Situation Report, WHO, the specialized United Nations agency responsible for global public health, said, the outbreak of Ebola in DRC and Uganda “continues to evolve rapidly”.
