Premier League side, Aston Villa, have emerged Uefa Europa League 2025/26 Winners after cruising past German Bundesliga side, Freiburg, by three (3) unreplied goals in the final at Tüpraş Stadium in Istanbul, Turkey on Wednesday 20 May, 2026.
This means Spanish manager, Unai Emery, has won the trophy for a fifth time as the victory was heavily celebrated by fans of the English club, both in Turkey and back at home.
The Villa supporters had waited a massive forty-four (44) years to see their club in another European final.
Aston Villa went in front in the 41st minute through Youri Tielemans, who converted an assist from Morgan Rogers, and in the 3rd minute of first half additional time, John McGinn provided for Emiliano Buendia to add the second and push the Villans closer to the trophy.
And, in the 58th minute, the victor was ascertained after Rogers converted Buendia’s assist to make it three (3) for the Villans.
The German top flight side were left flattened as Aston Villa and Emery recorded a masterclass on Wednesday night in Turkey.
Villa should have netted more as Amadou Onana’s header from McGinn’s corner struck the back post, and Buendia’s effort hit the side of the net.
Aston Villa’s dominance in the showdown was stunning as Captain McGinn was in control of the midfield and Freiburg never really threatened.
A breathtaking performance and an amazing season for Aston Villa. A Uefa Europa League trophy, a top five (5) finish in the Premier League which has handed them a spot in the Uefa Champions League 2026/27.
In his post-victory comments, Aston Villa manager, Unai Emery, described to TNT Sports the performance of his side as “fantastic”, saying, he and his side took the 2025/26 season “very serious”.
Emery said: “It’s really something fantastic.
“We played in a very serious way this year. So, so focused. I was telling them, ‘we need desire in this competition and to show on the pitch that you are the protagonist’. And they did it.”
Aston Villa Captain John McGinn told TNT Sports after the victory: “I can’t believe it. This club was close to being in a right bad way seven years ago.
“Tonight was everything we have built coming together.
“It’s the proudest night of my career so far. I’m going to try to enjoy it. I like to party sometimes. I’ll try to take it easy and soak it all in.”
Via X, Aston Villa described Emery as “the greatest”.
