Barcelona manager Hansi Flick loses father

German manager of Barcelona Football Club, Hansi Flick, has lost his father.

Despite the sad incident, the former Bayern Munich manager will go ahead and guide the Catalans in the El Clasico against Real Madrid on Sunday night.

The announcement of Flick’s father’s passing was made by FC Barcelona on Sunday 10 May, 2026.

Tributes will be paid at Camp Nou. A minute silence will be observed before kick-off, and players will wear black armbands during the game.

The Catalans will be heading into the game as League toppers with eighty-eight (88), while, Real Madrid as second-placed with seventy-seven (77) points.

Via an official statement, Barcelona announced: “FC Barcelona and the entire blaugrana family wish to send all our love to Hansi Flick after the passing of his father. We share in your sorrow and our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.”

Whether the hosts win or draw against the Los Blancos tonight, Flick can deliver the La Liga trophy for second time consecutively.

The German pro football manager joined Barcelona in the 2024/25 season and went on to emerge Kings of Spain; he will do it again on Sunday even if the contest finishes with spoils shared.

Since taking over managerial functions from Xavi in May, 2024, Flick has clinched four (4) trophies with the Catalans.

Via an official announcement on the passing of Flick’s Father, arch rivals, Real Madrid, wrote: “Real Madrid C. F., its president, and its Board of Directors deeply regret the passing of the father of Hansi Flick, coach of F. C. Barcelona.

“Real Madrid wishes to express its condolences and affection to his family and all his loved ones. Rest in peace.”
