‘Peace is possible in Nigeria’ – Obi

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has once again reacted following the recent attacks that claimed lives in Jos, Plateau State, saying, Nigeria “must be secured”.

He added, “silence is not an option”; and asked, will peace ever reign in Plateau, Benue, Kogi and all other States suffering security problems?.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) member further asked on X, should Nigerians just “give up, accept defeat” and yield to “fear” while the people continue to get killed?

Obi asked: “Can Peace Reign in the land?

“What have we done wrong that has brought us this level of insecurity?

“When can peace reign in Plateau, Benue, Niger, Sokoto, Kwara, Kogi and all the other troubled states of our nation, or should we just accept now that security in some parts of Nigeria has become a norm and impossible to handle?

“Should we just give up and accept defeat and surrender to fear while our people continue to die and our communities are ravaged and destroyed?”

Obi said, this cannot be allowed to become the “new normal”, adding, the “violence is inevitable”.

He believes that peace can be achieved across Nigeria, saying, the situation in the country is as a result of “failure” of leadership.

Obi called for “action” against insecurity in the country, and said, Nigeria must be secured before more Nigerians are lost.

He said: “We cannot let this become the new normal. The violence is not inevitable, and peace is not impossible, it is the failure of leadership that has made it feel otherwise.

“We must demand action and refuse to accept a Nigeria where some states are abandoned to chaos. Silence is not an option. We must secure our nation before more lives are lost.”
