Reece James ruled out with hamstring injury – Chelsea boss Rosenior’s fitness update ahead of PSG match

Chelsea manager, Liam Rosenior, has released an update on the fitness of his players ahead of the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 round of 16 second leg match against Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG).

The former Strasbourg head coach said, his Captain, Reece James, will not feature for the Premier League side as a result of a hamstring injury.

On Tuesday 17 March, 2026, Chelsea will field against PSG in the UCL knockout game at Stamford Bridge in London; the Blues will be heading into the game after losing 5-2 to the French reigning Kings in the first leg at Parc des Princes in Paris, France.

According to the official website of Chelsea Football Club, Rosenior said, James, England defender, “felt something in his hamstring” at the end of the Premier League match against Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United.

The Magpies defeated Chelsea by a lone goal on Saturday 14 March, 2026 in London.

Rosenior described James’ situation as “frustrating” as they look to overturn their three-goal deficit when they slug it out with the Les Parisiens on Tuesday night.

The injury rules the Blues Captain out of the showdown and the England international “could be out for a few weeks”.

On Brazilian winger, Estevao, Rosenior gave a positive update; he said, the former Palmeiras player has returned to training, however, he will be “assessed” to ascertain if he will be available for the game against the French side.

The Blues boss also said, goalkeeper, Filip Jorgensen, “felt something in his groin” following the first leg match against Luis Enrique’s PSG.

On Reece James…

Rosenior said: “With Reece, he felt something in his hamstring at end of the game vs Newcastle.

“That’s really frustrating and disappointing for us and we don’t know the full extent of that just yet but it rules him out of tomorrow’s game.

“It could be [a few weeks out]. With a hamstring injury, it’s never great. Hopefully, we can get him scanned, find out the extent and then we will know more.”

On Estevao…

Rosenior said: “Estevao is back in training. He will be part of the group and we’ll assess whether he can take part in the game at some point tomorrow.”

On Filip Jorgensen…

Rosenior said: “With Filip Jorgensen, he felt something in his groin after the PSG game. We are getting him scanned to find out the full extent of that injury.”

Following the lone goal defeat on home ground to Newcastle United on Saturday, Chelsea are now 6th on the table with forty-eight (48) points.
