Atletico Madrid leading all-time goalscorer will head to American Major League Soccer (MLS) this summer for a new professional challenge.
Spanish La Liga club, Atletico Madrid, and American club, Orlando City FC, have agreed on the transfer of French forward, Antoine Griezmann, to the MLS Football Outfit starting from next season.
A statement from Atletico Madrid says: “The forward traveled to Orlando, with the club’s permission, during the two days of rest granted to the first team, to finalize his contract with the Florida side.”
After ten (10) seasons flaunting the red and white shirt, Griezmann will be taking a new challenge in the MLS.
The Frenchman moved to Metropolitano from Real Sociedad in July 2014, and since then, he has emerged the Mattress Makers’ leading all-time goalscorer with 211 goals, transcending the record set by Luis Aragonés of 173 goals.
Griezmann has also recorded 488 games for Atletico Madrid, making him the player with the fourth-most appearances in the history of the Club.
The 35-year old will return to training this week alongside players who have not travelled with their national teams for international duty as the Club gears up for the last stage of the season.
Atletico Madrid will prepare for the Copa Del Rey 2025/26 final against Real Sociedad, as well as, a Uefa Champions League 2025/26 quarter final tie; Diego Simeone’s side will be eyeing to reach the tournament’s semi finals.
Copa Del Rey final and Uefa Champions League quarter final:
Atletico Madrid will face Real Sociedad in the Copa Del Rey 2025/26 final on Saturday 18 April, 2026 at 20:00 (WAT) at Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville, Spain.
The Red and Whites will play against its Spanish rivals, Barcelona, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 quarter final tie.
The first leg will take place on Wednesday 8 April, 2026 at Camp Nou at 20:00 (WAT), while, the second leg is scheduled to hold at Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday 14 April, 2026 at 20:00 (WAT).
