Liverpool 5-2 West Ham: Reds clinch crucial win at home

Liverpool cruised to an easy 5-2 victory over West Ham United in the Premier League match on Saturday 28 February, 2026 at Anfield.

The hosts produced a fine performance to net three (3) set-piece goals in the first 45 minutes.

Manager Arne Slot’s side, who have suffered criticism this season for not being effective enough in set-piece found the back of the net three times from the corner with goals from Hugo Ekitike, Virgil van Dijk and Alex Mac Allister.

Three (3) goals in the first half by three different providers exposed how feeble the Hammers are in the defence against corners.

Assisted by Ryan Gravenberch, striker Ekitike opened scoring for the Reds early, in the 5th minute, and defender Van Dijk added the second from Dominik Szoboszlai’s assist in the 24th minute.

West Ham United, led by former Wolverhampton Wanderers manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, have now conceded a League-high fifteen (15) goals this campaign from corners. This is also the second time this season the Hammers are conceding three (3) goals from corners after suffering the same number from Chelsea in August.

In the 43rd minute, Ekitike provided for Alexis Mac Allister, who made it three (3) for the home side.

But, just four (4) minutes after the break, West Ham fought and found one through Tomas Soucek, who converted M. Diouf’s assist.

Liverpool then returned their three-goal lead when Dutch forward, Cody Gakpo, scored with twenty (20) remaining to play, but, the Reds were liable once again when Valentin Castellanos was left unmarked in the back post from a corner.

As the showdown dragged on, Jeremie Frimpong forced Axel Disasi to gift Liverpool the fifth by hitting the back of his own net in the 82nd minute.

The outcome means Liverpool have now pushed Chelsea to 6th and climbed to fifth with forty-eight (48) points, while, West Ham United dropped to 18th, in the relegation zone, with twenty-five (25) points.

The quest for a spot in Europe next season continues to heat up between Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United.
