Antonio Guterres, United Nations (UN) Secretary-General, has called on the United States (US) and Israel to “end the war”, saying, it has caused more “human suffering”.
The conflict has resulted to “Civilian casualties” and the adverse effects on the world economy is “increasingly devastating”, the UN Chief said on X.
After Israel struck production infrastructure linked to South Pars Natural Gas Field of Iran in a major escalation, energy prices have soared.
Following the hit on the South Pars Gas Field, one of the largest gas reserves in the world, in retaliation, Iran was forced to strike energy facilities in the Middle East and Israel.
Guterres also called on Iran to cease its attacks on neighbouring Gulf countries, saying, they “are not parties to the conflict”.
US President, Donald Trump, distanced America from Israel’s strike on Iran’s South Pars Gas Field, saying, his administration “knew nothing” about it.
Guterres said: “The conflict in the Middle East has gone too far.
“My message to the US & Israel is that it’s high time to end the war – as human suffering deepens, civilian casualties mount & the global economic impact is increasingly devastating.
“My message to Iran is to stop attacking their neighbors that are not parties to the conflict.”
