PSV 1-2 Bayern: Musiala, Kane score as Bavarians end hosts Champions League hopes

German Bundesliga 2024/25 Winners, Bayern Munich, finished second in the standings of the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 and booted out PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands from the tournament.

In the game which finished 2-1 in favour of the German side, Harry Kane, came off the bench to net the winning goal for Vincent Kompany’s Bavarians to send the Dutch Eredivisie 2025/26 toppers packing from the Champions League.

The Dutch side headed into the clash as one of several teams fighting for a spot in the knockout stage Play-offs. PSV gave the visitors, who already have a spot in the Round of 16, a hard test all through.

PSV recorded better goal chances in the first 45 minutes with Ivan Perisic seeing a glancing header finely fought off by Jonas Urbig.

After a first half that ended without a goal, an improved Bayern Munich scored first through Jamal Musiala in the 58th minute with an assist from Lennart Karl.

Musiala was making his first start for the German side since suffering a broken leg at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 last July in the United States (US); the German collected Karl’s pass and fired it into the roof.

But, a determined home side fought back and levelled through Ismael Saibari with a beautiful effort into the top-left corner in the 78th minute.

PSV would have made it to the tournament’s Play-offs if they had held on and shared spoils, but, their hopes were wrecked after Kane converted Luis Diaz’ assist in the 84th minute.

The hosts added more to their troubles on home soil after Junior Mauro bagged his second yellow of the game and was shown the way out.

The away game was German midfielder, Musiala’s first start for Bayern Munich after more than two hundred (200) days due to injury. He has now netted two (2) goals in his last three (3) Champions League matches.
