Manchester United struggled to return to Old Trafford with a point, thanks to Matheus Cunha’s leveller in the Premier League match against Leeds United on Sunday 4 January, 2026 at Elland Road.
American attacking midfielder, Brenden Aaronson, placed Leeds United in front in the 62nd minute, but, Cunha levelled in the 65th minute as both sides finished 1-1 to share spoils.
The result means Leeds have successfully gone seven (7) games without tasting defeat.
Aaronson put the home side ahead after outpacing Ayden Heaven to beat Senne Lammens in the second half, but, Cunha finished perfectly, having been played through by Dutch forward, Joshua Zirkzee.
Both sides recorded chances after Ruben Amorim’s side had levelled as Cunha got close to scoring for United when he struck the outside of the post from the edge of the box, while Benjamin Sesko wasted an opportunity wide from Zirkzee’s cut-back.
Leeds also came close after forward, Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s header hit the post while Noah Okafor had an overhead kick beautifully saved by Lemmens at full-stretch.
Manchester United recorded some improvements from their performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers, but, were booed by supporters after finishing draw with bottom club, Wolves, at Old Trafford.
The result leaves Manchester United in the 5th spot while Leeds United are 16th, with just few points away from relegation zone.
