Arsenal 0-0 Liverpool: Gunners miss chance to go eight points atop

Arsenal were unable to go eight (8) points clear at the summit of the table after a goalless draw in the Premier League 2025/26 match against Liverpool on Thursday 8 January, 2026 at Emirates Stadium.

After Manchester City and Aston Villa dropped points in their encounters on Wednesday night, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal had the chance to buttress their quest for a first title in twenty-two (22) years.

The Gunners actually kicked off strongly, however, it was Arne Slot’s Liverpool that went closest in the first 45 minutes after Conor Bradley’s lobbed effort struck the bar.

Arsenal fought harder as Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice saw their long-range efforts saved by Reds goalkeeper, Alison Becker, but, Liverpool’s defence was very solid.

The visitors, who have successfully gone ten (10) matches without tasting defeat in all competitions, dominated the showdown in the second 45 minutes as the home side slowed down.

With tensions rising from the Gunners supporters, Liverpool mounted more pressure as Arsenal hardly recorded any shot.

Despite dominating possession, Liverpool were unable to have a shot on target with Dominik Szoboszlai’s three obstinate long-range efforts their best chances.

In additional time, Alison was tested by substitutes, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, but, it proved to be an annoying clash in North London.

Arsenal only succeeded in extending their lead at the top of the table to six (6) points when they could have achieved more on home soil.

Next, Arsenal will slug it out with Portsmouth in the FA Cup 2025/26 third round match on Sunday 11 January, 2026 at 15:00 (WAT), while, Liverpool will face Barnsley on Monday 12 January, 2026 at Anfield at 20:45 (WAT).
