‘He felt something’: Amorim gives update on Mason Mount’s injury

Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has released some details on English midfielder, Mason Mount’s injury.

Mount, who featured for the Reds in the Premier League encounter against Newcastle United on Friday 26 December, 2026, was substituted in the second half.

The Portuguese boss said, Mount “felt something” after playing his part in helping the home side take the lead in the 24th minute.

Manchester United won the Boxing Day showdown by a lone goal, thanks to Patrick Dorgu’s volley; after Mount was taken off, teenage player, Jack Fletcher, came on.

The Englishman wanted to continue but Amorim was not willing to take the risk and had to make the decision to replace him.

Amorim told SkySports: “He felt something at half-time. He wanted to go [on] and that is also a good thing.

“He wanted to go to the second half but we cannot lose more players, if you are not 100 per cent. And Jack did a very good job.”

Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro, came back to action from suspension, but, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt were all out of action due to injuries.

Noussair Mazraoui, Amad and Bryan Mbeumo are all representing their various countries, Morocco, Ivory Coast and Cameroon respectively, at the ongoing Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) 2025 in Morocco.
