English attacking midfielder, Phil Foden, netted twice to inspire a 3-2 triumph for Manchester City against Leeds United in the Premier League 2025/26 match at Etihad Stadium on Saturday 29 November, 2025.
Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens watched as their two-goal lead slipped away until Foden found the winner in stoppage time.
The home side did not waste any time to take the lead in the 59th second of the showdown through Foden, and Josko Gvardiol converted from a corner in the 25th minute.
There was nothing from Leeds United that showed they wanted to come back into the game as they were unable to record a shot on goal in the first 45 minutes.
But, just four (4) minutes into the second half, substitute Dominic Calvert-Lewin pulled one for the visitors; the former Everton player then won a penalty which was taken by Lukas Nmecha which was kept out by City goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, however, the penalty taker quickly converted the rebound to make it 2-2.
Leeds thought they would return to Elland Road with one (1) point, but, that did not happen as Foden utiliszd Ryan Cherki’s assist to net the winner for City.
The result has lifted Manchester City into second in the standings, above Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea while Leeds United continue to wriggle in the relegation zone
In his post-victory comments, Guardiola hailed Foden, saying, the 25-year old “did good”.
The Spanish manager said: “In these moments there are not strategies and tactics, just put the ball in situations to score. Phil did it good.”
Manchester City survived another scare following.successive defeats in the hands of Newcastle United in the top flight, and German Bundesliga club, Bayer Leverkusen, in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 match.
