The Federal Government has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to “recommit themselves to the implementation of the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy”.
Kashim Shettima, Vice President, made the call, saying, much work is expected from the FRSC to ensure safety on the roads in the country.
This is coming following recent statistics revealing a “startling record of deaths on the roads”, which the VP described as “quite disturbing”.
According to the VP’s official X account: “The Federal Government has called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (@FRSCNigeria) and other relevant stakeholders to recommit themselves to the implementation of the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy.
“Vice President @KashimSM, who stated this, noted that much work is still required by the FRSC and other stakeholders to keep the roads safe across Nigeria.
“Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja during the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) 8th Annual Lecture Series, Senator Shettima said the latest statistics indicating a startling record of deaths on the roads are quite disturbing, as they suggest that the nation still faces considerable road safety challenges.
“He implored stakeholders in government and the private sector to pursue indigenous solutions while collaborating with global partners in the bid to ensure safer roads across the country.”
Shettima commended the FRSC for the “vigour and innovation” with which they do their job, however, cautioned, “we do not yet have the luxury to celebrate”.
The VP’s X account further posted: ““I commend the leadership of the FRSC for the vigour and innovation with which you have pursued this cause. But let me add a note of caution: we do not yet have the luxury to celebrate. The road ahead remains long and demanding.””
