Capt. Chris Najomo, Director General of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has urged air passengers to switch off their phones and other portable electronic devices during flight take-off and landing.
These directives were announced on Tuesday by the NCAA DG at an emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) meeting in Abuja.
This is coming following the recent two incidents between Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, AKA, KWAM 1, and ValueJet in Abuja; and Ms. Comfort Emmanson and Ibom Air in Lagos.
KWAM 1 prevented the ValueJet aircraft from taxiing for take-off, while, Emmanson had a brawl with a flight attendant of Ibom Air which had her “stripped naked” by Airport security and taken to Kirikiri Prison.
According to a Statement by the NCAA: “Director-General Civil Aviation, (DGCA), Capt. Chris Najomo, has tasked air passengers to ensure they switch off their phones and other portable electronic devices during flight take-off and landing.
“He also directed Nigeria’s airline operators to amend their Operations Manuals to reflect this requirement and submit to the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for approval.
“Capt. Najomo gave these directives today during an emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee (NCASC) meeting convened by the NCAA in Abuja.”
