The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has clarified on its victory in court following a “misleading” publication by one Modibo who is trying to take credit for the recent order by the court which allows the Party to “rightfully” appear on the ballot for the legislative bye-election which is scheduled to hold on Saturday 16 August, 2025.
Via a statement posted on its official X account, the SDP clarified: “Attention has been drawn to a misleading publication by one Modibo, who is shamelessly attempting to claim credit for the recent court order allowing the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to rightfully appear on the ballot for the upcoming by-election scheduled for August 16, 2025.
“Let it be clearly stated: at no point did Modibo or his cohort play any role legal or strategic, in securing this critical victory for our party. They neither engaged legal representation nor contributed meaningfully to the judicial process.
“In fact, their actions have consistently undermined the constitutional integrity of the SDP, as they continue to parade themselves unlawfully. It was through the deliberate and lawful intervention of Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the duly elected National Chairman of our great party, that seasoned legal counsel was retained.
“This legal action became necessary after, Agunloye, recklessly endangered the party’s chances by refusing to fulfill his constitutional duty of signing the INEC notice of election, thereby placing the SDP on the brink of exclusion from the by-election.
“We urge our members and the general public to disregard the noise of political opportunists desperate for relevance. SDP stands strong because of credible leadership, not because of self-serving narratives built on falsehoods.
“We remain focused, undeterred, and committed to reclaiming our place in the democratic process through legitimate and transparent means.”
