Fernandes injury time penalty hands Amorim’s Manchester United 3-2 win over Burnley

Manchester United struggled to grab all three (3) points with a narrow 3-2 victory in the Premier League 2025/26 match against newly promoted, Burnley, at Old Trafford on Saturday 30 August, 2025.

United Portuguese captain, Bruno Fernandes, converted from the penalty spot to give the hosts the very crucial win.

Manager Ruben Amorim’s side’s lingering goalkeeping troubles looked set to cost them three (3) points after another mistake from Turkish goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, gave Jaidon Anthony a second equaliser of the day for the Clarets.

Josh Cullen hit the back of his own net to gift Manchester United the lead in the 27th minute, but, L. Foster equalized for the visitors in the 55th minute.

Cameroonian forward, Bryan Mbeumo, placed the hosts back in front with his effort in the 57th minute; the Clarets fought back and levelled in the 67th minute.

Burnley held on to squeeze out a point from the showdown, however, Fernandes’ penalty in the 7th minute of additional time ensured United clinched its first victory of the new top flight campaign.
