Delta State Govt enrolls 10,000 widows for monthly stipend

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced, his administration has enrolled 10,000 widows to receive monthly stipend.

This is coming as the Governor flagged off the Widows Welfare Scheme – Widows Alert on Monday 18 August, 2025.

Oborevwori directed that, three (3) months arrears be paid upfront after which the enrolled widows will continually be paid the stipend every month.

Governor Oborevwori announced via X: “I officially flagged off this administration’s Widows Welfare Scheme – Widows Alert – , in consonance with the second pillar of the MORE Agenda, which is Opportunities for All.

“It is also in fulfilment of my promise to run an open and all-inclusive government that carries everyone along. In all, 10,000 beneficiaries have been enrolled to receive monthly stipend.

“I have directed that three months’ arrears be paid upfront to the beneficiaries. Thereafter, the monthly stipend will continue to be paid to all enrolled widows.”

Oborevwori added, he directed the immediate enrollment of the beneficiaries in the state’s contributory health insurance scheme.

He said, his government takes serious every opportunity to help in the improvement of the lives of widows.

Governor Oborevwori continued: “In addition to this, I directed that the beneficiaries be immediately enrolled in the state’s contributory health insurance scheme. I also approved the payment of monthly premiums for each of the 10,000 widows, to enable them to access healthcare in any accredited hospital or primary healthcare facility closest to them.

“As a government, we cherish every opportunity to contribute towards improving the lives of widows and other vulnerable individuals in our society.

“To God be the glory.”
